COURSE CONTENT:
Introduction to the characteristic of alternating current systems and the application of Ohm’s law to AC circuits.
A/C and D/C motor theory.
Provides an overview of basic electrical lighting.
Introduction to various types of conduit benders utilized in the electrical trade.
Provides knowledge in determining various types and sizes of junction and pull boxes.
Introduction to methods of conductor installation in various raceways.
Introduction and use of cable trays.
Methods of terminating and splicing conductors of various sizes.
Covers in depth NEC Article 250 Grounding and Bonding.
Introduction of various overcurrent protection and their application.
Basic description of various types of relays and their application.
Introduction to calculating series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits.
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Perform various calculations utilizing Ohm’s Law.
2 Define motor related terms. Describe various types of motors and their relationships.
3. Describe the different characteristics of various lighting fixtures and their purposes.
4. Describe process of utilizing a power or hydraulic bender. Bend various offsets.
5. Describe various types of metallic and non-metallic pull and junctions boxes and their use.
6. Proficient in preparing and installing conductors in a raceway.
7. Identify various components of a cable tray.
8. Describe and install various conductor terminations and splices.
9. Explain the difference and purpose of grounding and bonding as it pertains to NEC Article 250.
10. Explain overcurrent protection in a circuit. Describe the operations of a circuit breaker.
11. Identify various relays and contactors. Explain how they are used in an electrical system.
